Healthy Eating Initiative
We recently received national media coverage about our 'Power-Walks' around the new school perimeter footpath. On Friday 13th October the BBC South Today Team visited and interviewed parents and children about our Healthy-Living initiatives, and were especially interested in our Power-Walks around the school. All about our Healthy Eating Award
In March 2006 we were very pleased to be the first "First" school in Dorset to attain the New National Healthy School's Status.
This award is judged in the following sections:
- PSHE and the Curriculum
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Emotional Health and Well Being
Some of the comments made were as follows:
- "The Playground Friends is an example of excellent practice and the scheme is extremely well organised."
- "Pupils and parents have been involved in moving towards healthier snacks and lunches e.g. lunch box food choices."
- "There is a minimum of 2 hours physical activity including "power walks" every day - which have been a great success with staff and pupils."
- "Physical activities in the playground have been extended, e.g. Craze of the Week - complete with challenges for different year groups."
- "There are good links with the local sports college...."
- "The School has developed a very effective range of strategies and activities to promote positive emotional health amongst its pupils."
The Inspector summarised the Report as follows:
"The success of the Healthy Schools Initiatives is very evident in the willingness and ability of pupils at Bere Regis to talk about and demonstrate their understanding of 'healthy eating' and 'healthier lifestyles'."
