We were most grateful to receive a cheque for the fantastic sum of £8,500. Our thanks go to the FOBRS committee for their hardwork in organising all the events which raise the money and also the parents, family and friends who come to the events and support us. The money will be used to benefit all the children in the school.

Donation

Our popular after-school clubs will start again during week commencing 19th September.  They will run from 3.15 p.m. to 4 p.m; we would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring that you are ready to collect your child promptly

The Clubs will be:

Monday           Cookery with Mrs Critchell (starting after half-term)
                        Football with Mr Battishill

Wednesday     Gym with Mr Battishill

Thursday         COBRAS Pottery Club and Crafts Club with Mrs Brown

Friday              Film Club (alternate weeks)
Dance in the hall with Rhythm and Mix

In the event that your child initially says yes to joining a club but subsequently changes their mind, please advise the teacher so that their place can be allocated to another child.  Occasionally we have to cancel clubs but will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible .   Children will also need appropriate equipment for their chosen activity i.e. P.E. kit, trainers etc.

In line with new Government legislation, a  permission slip giving permission for your child to participate in  various walks around the village/to and from the church and trips outside of the village throughout the course of the year has been sent home.  We will advise you each time that a trip/walk is planned but the new system should prevent us having to request permission slips on each and every occasion.  Please complete and return the slip directly to the Office and remember to keep us advised of any change of contact numbers.

School Crossing Patrol

As you are probably aware, we have been advised that we are to lose our School Crossing Patrol at the end of this academic year; regrettably this has now been confirmed.

Whilst we firmly believe that this is not the right decision we are unable to overturn it and our only option to keep the Patrol is to find sponsorship. If you know of any company who regularly use the road and who may be prepared to spnsor our 'lolly lady' for approximately 3 - 4 years until our new school building is ready, then please let us have the relevant contact details.

COBRAS

**COBRAS now run on a Friday evening, offering the full range of sessions – if you would like your child to attend then please contact Mandy, or the school office.**

COBRAS operates every week in term time from Monday – Friday from 3.15 – 5.30 p.m. (there are different sessions within that timescale to meet parents and children’s needs).

If your child does not come to Bere Regis School but would like to use the club we do offer a pick-up service from some local schools to Bere Regis.

COBRAS offer a quality care setting with qualified staff in a happy and safe environment and most importantly we aim to ensure that the children have fun.

2012 and Beyond!

As you are aware, our school will be changing to Primary status with effect from September 2012, when our current Year 4 children will become our first Year 5 group.

We have recently interviewed 6 middle school teachers who were all very strong candidates; I am now pleased to advise that the candidate best suited to our school,  MISS EMMA ADCOCK, has been appointed to teach the new year 5 class in September.

I am sure that Emma will quickly fit into our teaching team, to the benefit of all the children and I know that she is very excited about her new post.  We are looking forward to welcoming Emma on 7th February when she will spend a day in school meeting the staff and the children who will be in her class.

2010 News and Information

We hope that you enjoyed our Christmas Play - to see some photos please click here

Music Week

The children all enjoyed listening to and experienced playing the following – didgeridoos, handbells, keyboards, guitars, flute, percussion, drums, bagpipes and recorders.  They also worked outside using sound recording equipment to listen and record natural music and made instruments from old materials such as drainpipes and dustbins as well as painting and up-dating our outdoor music area.

On Thursday all children from Tyneham and Kimmeridge classes visited Salisbury Cathedral where they toured the Cathedral with official tour guides, participated in a music workshop with cathedral choir teacher, listened to the organ and sang songs with the cathedral school jazzband.  Every child and every adult without exception thoroughly enjoyed this visit.

Lulworth class children also enjoyed their trip to the village church where they rang the bell, learnt about the organ and sang with the choir.

We ended the week with a concert from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra which was enjoyed by everybody who attended.

All the staff and children would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of the 63 people who came and shared their skills with the children – and another huge THANK YOU to Mrs Liz Teather who worked tirelessly organising the event and ensuring that it ran smoothly during the week.

Book Week

During week commencing 4th October the children celebrated Book Week - with a Book Exchange and a 'Guess who Owns the Book' challenge, whereby the Staff have bought in their favourite books for the children to see if they can guess who the books belong too. We are also running a photo competition for the most unusual place to read - we are looking forward to seeing a selection of weird and wonderful locations!

Workshops were held for parents and all children regarding internet safety. Dorset Police, who run the course, have advised that they would be happy to run the course for parents one evening. Management of Medicines in School

We have recently reviewed the above Policy and a letter has been sent out to all parents today (13th January) explaining the new procedures in place. To read a copy of this letter click here

OFSTED

We have now received our full Inspection report, which will be available to view online at www.ofsted.gov.uk from 1st December - copies have gone out to all families but further copies are available on request from the Office.

We are very pleased with the report which shows that we have continued to make progress - by building on the positives of our previous inspection in 2006. As you will see, we have been marked 'Outstanding' on 9 judgements (compared with 3 in the last inspection) and 'Good' for the remainder.

We have recently had to reiterate our request to parents and visitors that dogs are not bought onto the school premises, nor tied up on the outside perimeter fencing. We trust that you can understand that the health and well-being of the children both in School and at Ragamuffins make this decision necessary.

We can now offer all children hot school meals at lunchtime at a cost of £2.15 per day. This scheme has been running since September and is proving very popular - please contact the Office if you need any information.

Where there are concerns, all agencies take action to address those concerns, working to agreed local policies and procedures in full partnership with other local agencies' - Joint Chief Inspectors' Report 2002.

  • promote a culture which makes this school a safer place to learn.

This policy applies to the headteacher, all staff (including supply and peripatetic staff), volunteers, governors or anyone working on behalf of Bere Regis School.
